Meet the author

Fantastic afternoon on Saturday with authors Fiona Shaw and Alison Gangel. Fiona read the gripping first chapter of her book  A Stone’s Throw which follows four generations of a family through the major events of their lives. It’s about love and loyalty, about the stories we tell and the secrets we keep and it’s beautifully written and very atmospheric. Alison (after an apology for the language!) read an episode from her memoir The Sun hasn’t fallen from the sky in which her mother was called to the school to deal with her troublesome daughters and told the staff in round terms exactly what she thought of them. Alison’s book tells a story of a difficult childhood with honesty but without a trace of self pity. It’s the exact opposite of a misery memoir- brave and uplifting.
