World Cat Day

8th August is World Cat Day. Anyone who owns a cat knows that every day is a special cat day but to celebrate, here are some of my favourite literary mogs.

Cat in the Hat Who can resist the anarchic Cat and the fun and chaos he causes with Thing One and Thing Two!

Gobbolino Gobbolino the Witch’s cat and his search for a simple home was a childhood favourite. Written in the 1940s by Ursula Moray Williams and still in print.

Scarface claw Scarface Claw, the toughest Tom in town and Slinky Malinki by the wonderful Lynley Dodd. Stortyime favourites.

Old Possum I love T.S.Eliot’s cat poems. He let out the secret about a cat’s names

Then for adults, there is the talking cat Tobermory in a short story by Saki – you can read it here at East of the Web’s short story site.

Do you have any favourite literary animals?
